At Folsom High School’s National Letter of Intent Signing Day, Eleven Folsom High School Athletes were recognized. The first athlete is Kaytlin Barker. Her Crew Coach, Chris Manibusan introduced her to the audience.
Kaytlin has rowed for Upper Natoma Rowing Club for 4 years. She first heard about rowing through Club Rush at the high school, but she didn’t really understand what rowing was, but she decided to give it a try! She fell in love with rowing immediately.
She ended up competing in many events, Women’s 1x (single), 2x (double), 2- (pair), 4x (quad), 4+ (coxed four), and 8+ (eight).
Kaytlin experienced success right away. By the spring of her freshman year, she was invited to race in the Varsity Women’s 8+ and placed 3rd at the Covered Bridge Regatta.
Then in her sophomore year she placed first in the Varsity Women’s 4+ at Southwest Regional Championships, in 2015. Kaytlin then competed at Youth Nationals and placed 2nd in the nation in the Varsity Women’s 4+ in 2015.
In the summer of 2016 Kaytlin competed with the US Rowing Junior National High Performance Team and took 3rd place in the U19 women’s 8+ at Club Nationals.
With all of Kaytlin’s success, she also earned awards. She earned the Novice Women’s Most Improved award in 2014, the Varsity Women’s Coach’s Award in 2015, and the Varsity Women’s Captain Award in 2016.She also, has been elected as the Varsity Women’s captain continuously from 2015-2017.
So as you can see, it makes perfect sense that she has been looked at by colleges and has committed to rowing for San Diego State University.
Best of Luck Kaytlin. Folsom is Bulldog Proud of You!!!
