Varsity Football · 2019-20 Folsom Football Wins Round 2 of SJS Playoffs

Folsom Football took on a tough team, Edison last Friday at the Bulldog stadium.

Folsom had the lead the majority of the game, but Edison kept chipping away at the point spread, until they took the lead late in the 4th quarter.

Folsom rapidly answered back with a huge punt return by Elijhah Badger. Followed a couple plays later with a touchdown. Folsom was in the lead 45-42.
Now it was Edison’s turn and they put the pressure right back on Folsom. They kept completing down after down, moving forward, play by play. Folsom almost stopped them, but after a penalty was called on Folsom, Edison started their push again. With just over a minute to go, Edison made the choice to go for a touchdown instead of a field goal.  With a big throw to the end zone, by the Edison quarterback, two Folsom defenders jumped in front of the intended target. You could hear a pin drop as everyone on both sides of the field held their breath. Folsom’s CJ Hutton reached just in front of the receiver and knocked  the ball of the ground. The Folsom fans roared!!!

The only thing left to do was to wait out the clock for the last minute of the game. Folsom Wins!!!

In talking to the team after the game, Coach Doherty made the following comments…

“We all wish we played better, and coached better, but what a great high school football game,”  “It was awesome. It came down to the end and you guys were able to pull out the win. This win pushes us on to next week. We’ve got a lot to work on and that’s what we’ll do, but enjoy this win. We’ve got a lot of guys banged up, but we’ve got a lot of guys who stepped up. I’m proud of all of you.”

Folsom(1)  now advances to the Semifinal Round against Monterey Trail(5) at the  Bulldog stadium at 7:00pm on Friday, November 22, 2019.
