Multiple Teams · 17-18 Folsom Swimmers Compete at Section Champions

The Folsom High School Swim team participated in 3 days of competion this past weekend, May 10(Girls), May 11(Boys), May 12 (Finals-Boys & Girls)in the Sac-Joaquin Sections Championships. It was the largest team that Folsom has qualified in many years. The team took 12 girls and 12 boys to preliminaries on Thursday and Friday, and 10 swimmers continued to Finals on Saturday in either individual or relay events. Our swimmers had an amazing meet, but a few highlights stood out. The Varsity Girls 200m Freestyle Relay team broke the school record again (the one they had just set two weeks prior in their championship meet) with a time of 1:36.95. This was also a State automatic time qualifier, thus the four girls will be heading down to Clovis West High School this coming weekend to participate in the State Championships. The team consists of Megan Baker(11), Emily Cooley(9), Jasmine Williams(11), and Hannah Joseph(10). The relay is currently seeded 20th in the state. After the State preliminaries on Friday, the top 16 teams will advanceto Finals on Saturday. Go Bulldogs!!!

In addition to the relay, we also had several swimmers make it into individual finals on Saturday at Sections, including: Brooke Briggs(9), Maggie Lam(9), Toshiro Suzuki(10)and Kellen Jones(9) for Frosh/Soph, and Emily Cooley(9), Hannah Joseph(10) and Jasmine Williams(11) at the varsity level. Many of them moved up places, but a standout performance was Hannah Joseph making the State automatic qualifying time in both her individual events, the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle. We are excited to see how Hannah does going into the State meet this weekend. Both events also earned Hannah the school record, with a 51:69 in the 100m Freestyle and a 23:86 in the 50m Freestyle.

Folsom is so proud of our swimmers! They have put in so much work to get to this point and their attitudes couldn’t have been better! Now we look forward to seeing the amazing talent at the State Championships and seeing our athletes complete at the elite level this weekend, May 18 & 19.
