Boys Varsity Tennis · Folsom’s Sean Barstow Takes 2nd Place in Div.1 Sac Joaquin Section Singles Tennis Championships


Folsom High School’s,  Sophomore Sean Barstow competed in 2 days of  competition at the Sac Joaquin Section Tennis Championships  at the Johnson Ranch Raquet Club in Roseville. He competed in the Division 1 Singles Bracket.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, Sean was ranked as the #3 seed. He first competed against Tyler Shih (Tracy) and won 6-1, 6-3. He then competed against Zach Prince(Jesuit) and won again 6-3, 6-1. That qualified him for the Semifinals on Thursday, May 3, once again at Johnson Ranch Raquet Club.

Sean competed against the #2 seed, Senior, Daniel Mateescu (Napa). After a well played match, Sean was the victor 6-2, 6-2 and after an hours rest, moved into the Section Finals vs the #1 seed, Junior, Coby McCaig (Modesto).

Coby came out very strong in the first set and won 6-2. The second set was a different story. This set was back and forth, with both athletes giving it their all. Sean went ahead 1-0, next Coby tied it up 1-1, Sean won his serve again 2-1, Coby followed suit 2-2, Sean won his serve for a third time and led 3-2, Coby tied it up again 3-3. This time Sean lost his serve and Coby took the lead 3-4. Then Coby lost his serve and Sean brought the game back to a tie 4-4. The guys really battled but Coby won the next two games and won the match 6-2, 6-4. Congratulations to both athletes!

Sean finished as the Sierra Foothill League Champion and league MVP and took 2nd place in the Sac Joaquin Section Championships.

What a huge accomplishment! Folsom is Bulldog Proud of you Sean!!!!!
