Boys Varsity Soccer · Folsom Boys Soccer Loses Heartbreaker in NorCal Semifinals

The Folsom Boys Soccer team has nothing to hang their heads about. After winning the Sierra Foothill League, going into the  Sac Joaquin Section Division I Championships ranked #1 and winning the Championship honor and then advancing to CIF State NorCal Championships also as the #1 seed, losing just one game of the season, is still a GREAT season. The Bulldogs won Round 1 on Tuesday over Los Gatos 4-1.

On Thursday, March 8, 2018, the Bulldogs advanced to the Semifinals against St. Ignatius at 5:00pm at the Folsom Stadium. The game saw the 2 highest ranked Northern California teams (according to State rankings) battling it out. There wasn’t one minute that was wasted. Both teams were so impressive and both left their hearts on the field.

The game was scoreless in the first half. The second half then went deep into the minutes, before a deflection off the leg of a defender changed the direction of the ball and scored for St Ignatius. The Bulldogs continued their pursuit to move the ball and pushed to score. They were even fighting to the very end. Literally, the last play of the game was a long pass to the middle and a Bulldog lept in the air to head the ball towards the goal. You could have heard a pin drop, as all the fans held their breath, however the ball just missed to the left of the goal.

The Bulldogs lost 0-1, but they went out with a lot of class, heart and respect.

Folsom is so proud of our Boys Soccer team and our coaches as they are the 2017-18 Sierra Foohill League and Sac Joaquin  Section Champions!!!
