Capital Cross Challenge
Folsom High School Cross Country competed well at the Capital Cross Challenge on Saturday, September 30 at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento. The Boys Varsity team had a strong showing placing 5th out of 41 teams in the Unseeded Division with Wade Kiesow leading the way with a 5K PR (Personal Record) of 16:26, and earning a medal with a top ten finish (9th). Drew Kiesow was not far behind with a 16:38 PR, followed by Jason Rayburn, 17:19 PR, Wyatt Vaccarro, 17:37 PR, Brennan Pelayo 18:15 PR who rounded out the scoring. Also racing were Jackson Meyers at 18:32, Christian Crebar at 18:35 and Clive Magras at 19:01.
The Frosh-Soph boys featured a season 2 mile PR from Spencer Pickren at 10:57, and a top ten finish (9th) for a medal. Israel Alfaro ran in the #2 position with an 11:22 PR, followed by Bradley Jackson 11:32 PR, Calvin Frink 11:56 PR, with Nicholas Sardo 12:02 PR, rounding out the scorers. Also racing were Matthew Poon 12:12 PR, Sutter Holden 12:32 PR, Brian Blockmon 12:36 PR, and Andrew Callanan 12:42 PR.
In the open boy’s race Jackson Abello lead the way running the 2 mile course in 11:47, followed by Joey Weil at 12:44, Michael Welsh at 12:49, and Christian Carrasco t 13:13.
The girls varsity race featured Junior, Mariam Samara with a lifetime best of 20:56. This is the first time Samara has broken the 21 minute barrier. Carley Tilley ran in the #2 position for the Lady Bulldogs at 23:00 PR, followed by Sydney Edwards at 24:11, and Rebecca Sutera at 24:57.
Freshman, Tirza Cai led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a 14:16 PR, followed by Elizabeth O’Donnell at 14:40, Skylar Wolf at 15:26, Emily Bursee at 15:32, and Marissa Ostdiek at 17:29.
Folsom High School Cross Country competes next at the Clovis Invitational on Saturday October 7.
